(More customer reviews)I bought a couple of these (Over the Rainbow and Fur Elise) because they are pretty, substantial, cheap and fun. They are made of metal, but a few of the parts, including the music cylinder's hubs, are plastic. The sound is pure, but tiny. When you put it on a flat surface like a table top or window the sound is greatly amplified - somewhat mysteriously. This miracle of sympathetic resonance is addictive and everyone in the immediate vicinity wanted to repeat the trick. I'll wager my kids will love this activity. The box includes mounting screws and the frame has screw holes so it's pretty clear you are meant to mount these. To me that strongly implies making a music box - which sounds like a really fun project with the kids. I'm going to get some bass wood, cut it, make a sound port hole and a little hole for the crank, and use little nails or staples to make a box. I'll have the kids paint their boxes and then we will mount the mechanisms inside. I'll wager they'll make a sweet sound.
