(More customer reviews)I got this for my 4 year old niece for her birthday and it was the hit present of the party. Everyone wanted to play with it- boys and girls. 2 months later it is still a hit. It has a great range and is very sturdy and durable. I have seen it roll on carpet and grass (so long as not overly uneven) although it goes alot faster on the hardwoods or on the concrete outside.
This is very adult and kid friendly. My niece is hard on her toys and this is no exception. She loves to run it at full speed into walls and other objects and so far so good. Nothing has cracked or broken. She has even sat on it a time or two and it still runs. Recently she had the brilliant idea to use the flexible antenna to tie another car to this truck and drag them around playing "tow truck". After her father pulled the cars apart, we tried the remote and everything is still a-ok.
As to the educational value: My niece has mastered hand eye coordination and is practically a pro at controlling the car, going backwards and left and right and spinning in a circle. I guess based on this, she has learned something so three stars for that. All her cousins also love to play with it too so she is definitely learning the art of sharing. So another star for that. I did not expect this TOY to teach her calculus and chemisty. It does what I wanted it to do: give her hours of fun.
The only real negative is that she plays with this alot and it goes through the AA batteries. Regardless, I'd rather have this car using AA batteries (which I and her parents always have on hand) rather than one with a rechargeable battery which would rely on us having extra batteries always recharged and at the ready. Or interrupting play time for several hours to allow the battery to charge.
The adults like this too but the other "negative" would be that we adults don't get to play with the truck very often and when we do get to play, it is apparent that the kids are alot better with the remote control than we are.
I am sure that this is nowhere near the quality of the ones thst cost hundreds of dollars but I did compare this to two others that cost more money and this had the best range and ease of the remote control. This truck is perfect for my niece and is fun enough for me and the other adults who have been able to get their hands on it.
One other thing I will note is that I would love to get another Hot Wheels truck for her to have her friends and cousins play too and race with her but all the Hot Wheels trucks seem to be the same 27 mhz thus we would be unable to run two in the same place at the same time. Hopefully Mattel is paying attention.
