(More customer reviews)I wasted a lot of years trying to get going in RC flying. With the EasyStar, I was finally able to make it happen. It's much, much, much easier to build than a balsa kit, and much, much, much, much, much more surviveable of the inevitable mishaps (tip 1 -- cover or wrap the vunerable areas of the EasyStar with strapping tape to greatly enhance it's durability). Flight speeds are reasonably slow too, which helps when learning to fly.
Tip 2: download the free FMS flight simulator and the EasyStar model for the FMS, hook up an RC transmitter radio to your computer and learn to fly virtually. The real thing will still be a learning experience, but the simulator will greatly improve your initial learning curve.
The aircraft is bigger than you might expect and takes a considerable amount of room to fly in. If you're a beginner and you're thinking a football field, think bigger -- many times bigger (after you master it though, you could definitely fly out of a football field).
The EasyStar, while not a dedicated glider, thermals quite well. That's mainly how I use mine -- I fly up under power, then turn off the motor and glide around looking for lift (and hopefully finding and using it too!). Many other people go in the opposite direction, modding the EasyStar for greater powered performance. The stock setup is great for learning on, whichever direction you go with it.
