(More customer reviews)This boat is probably the worst of the Nikko line. This boat goes as fast as a snail on a hot day. My brother got the sea hawk and it goes 10 times faster than this boat. I would recommend the sea racer to kids 8-10 who have had no experience whatsoever with R/C boats because of the lack of speed and stability.

(More customer reviews)i got this boat off of the makers of this boats website, it shipped, then it got backordered and came about 3 weeks later. i charged it and took it to my pool, it ran fine. a few days later the right propeller and shaft got jammed and the boat overheated, something blew up and it was smoking. so then i find out that the makers will not take it back and i am really pissed. so i am stuck with a boat that charges for 6 hours and runs for abut 1 minute before it starts to die because of the right propeller.

Italeri Elco 80' Torpedo Boat PT-596 Review

(More customer reviews)If you are thinking of building an extremely accurate version of a late-war Elco boat, you can stop looking.
This kit goes together perfectly if you use the novel approach of following the directions.
The only after-market accessories I used were the "Harbor accessories" kit, the Accurate Armor 20mm Oerlikon Cannon with the RB Model 20mm barrel, and brass propellers.
I also used some of the signal flags from Squadron, but DO NOT use the 1/35th scale flag kit..... they're WAY too large. Use the 72/A02 Tauro model kit and True Details 1:35 & 1:72 Star/Flags/Jacks kit # TD90001.
I also discarded the kit decals and used the correct number kit decals from Accurate Armor. (You get 3 sheets so you can re-number the boat if you wish which I did)
Other than that, about 60-70 hours, and some prior modelling experience, you will have a museum-quality PT boat.
It's a very impressive 28 inches long when completed so make sure you've got the room.
The wife may not take too kindly to the new centerpiece on the dining-room table.
HIGHLY recommended!

19" RC Dutchman Pirate Ship Review

I have had mine for about a year and I bought from another vender. It looks pretty nice, if rather toy like. I have had mine in the water once and then put it aside to dress up later with some weathering and figures.
If you really must have a RC Pirate ship and the Aqua-Craft King's Ransom is too much, (Check out Tower Hobbies for the best price for that boat) this boat is okay. If you just looking for a low end semi scale RTR RC boat consider one of the others that I have reviewed as this one has some design issues. The biggest issue with this boat is that the battery access hatch is on the bottom of the boat, this would be no problem if getting a good seal was fool proof but it is not. The screws are particularly easy to cross thread making it very likely that the cover will leak. The sails make running the boat on a breezy day a challenge.
This boat is sold a few different guises some with white sails some with black or red sails. The simulated shooting cannon is interesting, but I am trying to think of another way to use that control feature, (maybe a water cannon?)
As far as overall value goes, that is hard to say. It is made fairly well. The key thing would be to find it for as cheap as you can (can be found for $50+or- including shipping if you look around on line). I think it included batteries but not a rechargeable one like some other RC in this price/ quality range do.

31" RC HT-2879 Destroyer War Ship Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking for an rc boat that was different from everything else out there. By choice or chance I came upon the Smasher RC HT-2879, and it's pretty durn cool.
Some good info to remember though. It's not super-detailed museum quality, and it shouldn't be. It's made for fun on the pond. The transmitter range is kind of weak, and the battery definitely doesn't last long. By using two propellers to control direction instead of a rudder it's less than satisfactory. Right from the box one of the motors was less powerful than the other, and since you can only go at full speed or none at all my boat will make large curves across the pond when attempting to go straight. Proper throttle controls or a real rudder would fix this, but then I'm sure it would be more expensive.
It's a cool boat, not like everything else on the pond, but it does leave a lot to be desired.
Update! After I wrote this review I took the boat out for the second time on the pond. About five minutes in I watched as the starboard (right) motor completely died, leaving my boat doing lazy circles out in the middle of the pond. Given its performance, I don't think I can recommend this anymore.

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these from Hobbytron. I was surprised by the level of detail; it is more like a scale model than a toy. Some of the finer details break off easily but this does not affect the function of the boat.
It looks very much like a 1/72 scale model Torpedo boat. After having it for a while I disassembled it and painted more to scale, it looks great as is, but with a nice scale model like paint job it is even better.
The boat runs real well forward, reverse, left and right. There is no "throttle" just go or no go. The boat runs well in a pool or small lake and does not get too upset if the water is not glass smooth. It is very maneuverable.
I have purchased other items from Hobbytron and they are a good vender if a tad slow on shipping.
For about $30.00 with shipping, it is a pretty good buy.

(More customer reviews)i bought a used one of these and had to replace the electrical system-that includes radio, servos, everything. considering I've never owned an RC sailboat, never sailed a real boat, and never had to change anything on an rc model, but within a day I had the Nirvana sailing like an old pro. I think it says a lot for the boat that it's easy to understand when something's wrong and you're able to fix it. My second day out I got caught in some high wind and the jib sail came loose. I didn't have the instruction manual with me but I was able to re-rig it by guessing how the lines worked. sure enough i was back in the water once the wind died down. it's a pleasure t sail this boat. In fact i'm getting a second one to race with friends.
There are 2 problems i found common with these boats. the electrics aren't good--but like i said, it's easy to replace with better equipment. and the knots on the lines can come loose--always check before launching.

I felt like I has really been gypped. boat was only a fifty dollar boat but with shipping it was around sixty. the sad part was my eleven year old grandson saved his allowance to buy this boat and it was junk and the company does not stand behind their product.

(More customer reviews)We have really enjoyed this boat. It goes fast, and the price was extremely reasonable. I have 2 recommendations: 1. go ahead and buy an additional battery for the boat. The battery life is short (15-30 min). If you buy another one and charge it up, you can pop that one in when the first one runs out and play for almost an hour. 2. Don't drive this boat in a body of water that you cannot swim in! If it gets out of range of the remote control you have to go in after it. Also, if the battery dies while you are out at sea you will have to go in after it. Other than that, we were extremely happy with the size, weight, and look of the boat, as well as the performance.
