Power Wheels Ford F150 Review

(More customer reviews)We bought this for our 5 year old son for Christmas. Previously he has been driving around a "Power Wheels" Jeep that was my daughter's until she outgrew it, so we can give you a head-to-head comparison between the two. The F150 is quite a bit bigger than the Jeep, it came in a HUGE box! It is wider, taller and longer; and has much more clearance underneath. There is some assembly involved as well as applying of decals, but the instructions are good and the assembly is nothing complicated. I haven't seen this mentioned before in the reviews, but the "Monster Traction" feature comes by way of a separate electric motor driving each rear wheel (2 motors total). Typical Power Wheels have a single electric motor driving one rear wheel while the other rear wheel free-wheels. The Monster Traction definitely works, the Jeep gets stuck in certain places in our yard (particularly on the grade changes between pavement and grass) while the F150 easily breezes across those same areas. But here's something you need to know, if you install the low speed lockout on a Monster Traction vehicle, it no longer has Monster Traction! Only the right rear wheel is active at low speed and in reverse. As a result, it gets stuck on all but the most solid terrain in low speed or in reverse. In reading some of the complaints about traction here I'm guessing this is due to low speed running. You've got to keep it on high to take advantage of the Monster Traction driving both rear wheels.
Other comments- the construction is very robust like all F-P Power Wheels vehicles, it'll no doubt last a long time. The radio is a neat feature for the kids to play with. Reception isn't fantastic, but they like it just fine. The F150 is nicely finished out and looks close enough to the real thing to make our son feel like he's driving a vehicle rather than riding on a toy. I rate this as an excellent purchase for the money and fully expect it to last many years just as the Jeep has.

Rokenbok Conveyor Company Start Set Review

(More customer reviews)My almost five-year old son received this as a Christmas present and has had the greatest time with it. We were a little skeptical about whether it would be easy enough for him since it is very intricate, but he is so good with Legos and Knex that we tried it. Originally we were looking for something more interactive than Legos but less complicated than an Erector set. This fit the need exactly.
It really is fun. Even my husband likes it =) The dump truck works by remote, and it drives around, picks up the balls, and dumps them in the quarry. The quarry is automatically programmed to work the conveyor, which takes the balls up to the yellow slide, one by one, and sends them down the chute... either falling into the storage bins up top or into a big collecting bin on the bottom. The dump truck can then pick up the balls from the bin on the floor or the storage bins in the air, and start all over.
It is pretty neat. For my five-year old, who has never had a remote toy before, he can play with the truck for quite awhile. And a month later, he still brings it out every day. We just keep the apparatus assembled and all he needs to do is slip in the cartridge for the truck, turn on the unit, and it's ready to go.
It is a little more difficult to put together than Legos. Mostly because the pieces need a bit more force and carefulness to snap together. Also the directions are not as clear as Legos' are. It took a couple hours with granddad to assemble just right.
It took him a little while to master the remote... it is actually more like a video game controller, which he had never used, and is pretty sensitive. (Takes two hands, use of rolling thumb technique). It takes some fooling around with, even as an adult, to drive carefully and get the truck to back up just right. But even my two and three year olds can drive the truck straight down the hallway just by pressing the forward button. It is probably ideal for a six or seven year old, or a child experienced with video games already.
That said, it's not a toy for toddlers or hyper young children (at least, not without supervision). It takes some focus and respect. My own five year old once got a Lego light (tiny) stuck in the dump truck insides and we almost ruined it, taking it apart to get the light out. Yet for the most part, it's a very durable toy, and the pieces snap together strongly so you can pick up the apparatus and carry it without splitting apart. But don't let your toddler or pet fool around with the dump truck, sending unit, or cartridges. The little balls are obvious choking hazards (EXACTLY the right size of a baby or dog's throat). And if pieces come off the apparatus, it can be a little tricky to get them back on just right... they require a little more force and finesse than most little boys have.
That said, it's a great buy. Sending unit and remote are sold separately, so it's expensive. And it needs several Double As (6?) and one 9-volt battery. But matching Rokenbok sets can be added without buying extra accessories (unless you want another controller for a second child). So it's tempting to want to invest in your own RokenbokLand =)

Air Hogs Switchblade 27 MH Black/Yellow Review

(More customer reviews)So, I have gotten my son almost every air hog there is and all the flying ones stink. This is the first one that actually flies somewhat decently, however, we had to go play with it on a football field. You need a lot of room.....I mean A LOT of room. First let me say that I found this to be very durable. This dropped easily 50 feet into the hard dirt many times and it still works (they do give you extra parts). If you are unfortunate enough to break the styrofoam, you are done. I was unable to get a launch with the launch holder but was very successful with a manual launch. A word of caution here: although it is styrofoam, beware, this is a dangerous toy. The props are quite strong and caught the inside of my palm that almost gave me a two inch cut. Though it did not break the skin, my hands are fairly tough, and I believe it would have easily cut through softer skin, especially a childs. I would keep children close and behind you in case you need to deflect it. Some words of advice for an easier launch, send it up in a twist (it's actually fun to let it climb and try to make it hover) then press the mode button when it is at least 30 feet up and then practice steering. Try to find a big field, because it will hit the hardest when it is in flying mode (versus the twisting helicopter type mode). I don't know how easy it would be for a 10 year old, as I had to take a lot of time to get even basic controls working. The worst part is that once you get fairly comfortable the battery dies out and you need to recharge it. That's frustrating. Those are all worth a total deduction of 2 stars. Still, it is fun, and your kids will love it (if they can get it out of your hands). Do not use this in windy conditions as the wind will just take it away or send it crashing down. Use it in a field to help avoid a catastrophic crash. Send it up spinning and practice with that first so that you are comfortable with the controls. I think this one will actually work well with enough practice and adjusting the trim. I was not impressed with the "carrying case," which turns out to be the box it came in with a cardoard handle. Most of these are completely useless. This one actually does what it says, and with some patience, you should be able to have some fun (but you will also spend some time going after it to pick it up).

(More customer reviews)And here we are at take off.... the ground performance was great and we even got it off the ground a few times. Followed abrubtly by a quick crash. Not really a problem for the body - the durable foam took it well. The first night out with it we flew/drove it for nearly 30 minutes.
Then the fun ended. No matter how long the battery was recharged, full power (needed for take off) lasts less than 10 seconds. It takes at least 30 feet on a flat surface to get enough lift. That's less than 0.5 seconds of flight if any.
The videos are impressive - but I'm depressed by the performance of this product. Perhaps it was merely a defective battery.

This thing has a spinning foam gobbler up front that just sucks up the balls and delivers them to the dumptruck style bin in the back. Then (This is the cool part) the sweeper elevates and you can "spit" the balls into hoppers or other vehicles. Plus, if you are into rokenbok vehicle against vehicle wresling, it's a major heavyweight contender. It's a fun toy.

Terrainiac Radio Control Vehicle - 27 MHz (Green) Review

(More customer reviews)My 8 year old son just got this for his birthday and it is the coolest toy. My husband I think enjoyed it more than my son. It can take a beating! He had it going through corn fields, on hilly land, in the water, down the street, in the sand and it only suffered one little scratch. He runs it until the battery dies every time. Definetly an enjoyed toy. Hopefully it the amusment doesn't wear off. He's looking forward to doing it in the snow.

(More customer reviews)Purchased for granddaughter age 10. She loves it. She likes to talk to it and especially being able to tell it secrets. She plays the music and dances and sings with it. There has been no problem with the way it works. The only suggestioon I have is that the remote will work two of them at the same time. Her friend has one and they had problems getting them to do different things at the same time as the other remote and her remote worked the other doll also.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this jeep for my son's 3rd birthday. It rides well on the grass, wet or dry. It also runs well on gravel and through a sand patch that we have in the yard. I was very surprised how long the battery lasts. I have read other power wheels reviews in which people say the battery does not last long. I would strongly disagree. If you charge it like the manual says, you shouldn't have any problems. We have had the jeep for a little over a month now and my son and I are extrememly pleased with it. I can't wait until my other son is big enough to ride in it with his brother. Highly recommended!!!!

XPV Super Terranator Orange 27 MHz Review

(More customer reviews)I had to test two of these cars. The first one was dead off the shelf, but looked like it was returned to the factory and just repackaged.
The second car wasn't much better. Out of the box there was white paint smudges all over the chassis of the car. There are two decorative fins near the rear of the car that don't seem to serve any purpose other than to fall off and infuriate the user.
To charge the car you need to unscrew the back panel and hook up the ac adapter to the hidden plug. On BOTH of the cars the plug's metal contacts were bent out of alignment and required careful repositioning to charge either of them.
After following the charging instructions the first car didn't work at all and was promptly returned. The second car ran for 2 minutes and then the battery was drained so much that all the tires would do is vibrate.
I'm returning the second one and taking my money to a different car.

It is very well made and the company stands 100% behind their product (a part was missing and they immediately replaced it.)It's most creative use would be for older children (8-10) to make their own track designs.

Megatech Avion Airplane Review

(More customer reviews)This is one of the few R/C planes that can fly inside your home. Comparing to the Silverlit PalmZ, this plane is much better looking and can be more precisely controlled. However, it is twice as expensive, has a little less thrust-to-weight ratio, and has shorter flight time.
The fun factor is very high for this kind of product (yeah, flying R/C planes inside your own home! How cool is that!). But for its price, I would expect something more durable. Though the plane can take on quite a few crashes, the styrofoam wings get dented, cracked, and chip easily. I would highly recommend that you protect the edges of the wings with light weight scotch tape immediately out of the box. Such a simple protection goes a long way.

(More customer reviews)I am deployed to Iraq right now and I was looking for something to mess around with in our hanger. I atomatically ordered two knowing I would break one and I could salvage parts without waiting forever. The first one's tail prop would ot trim out and just spun out of control and crashed. The second one charged up and flew great right outta the box. After messing with the trim a bit and mastering the controls It is surprisingly controlable. I've crashed the thing into the concrete and the metal hanger walls about 100 times and haven'tbroke anything yet. Make sure you have plenty of room to practice so yours stays as durable as mine has.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my 7 yr old son for Christmas. He had it at the top of his list, I couldn't resist after the price dropped significantly on Amazon. My son was thrilled with this toy, it came with nearly all needed to run it and recharge. The toy is very well built, fires discs and spins at a VERY VERY fast speed which my kids think is awesome. This is one of the better R/C toys out there that we have had experience with. Highly recommend!
