(More customer reviews)It's a big helicopter, but don't expect big stability or durability. Too much effort went into glitz rather than handling. This is not a stable machine in relative terms. The Syma models are much more stable, although not as big. It tends to move backward at lift-off, so you have to be on top of it with some forward stick to get it to lift-off straight up. Even full forward trim does nothing to correct the situation.
Durability is dismal, so this is not a beginner helicopter. I let an inexperienced buddy 'take it for a spin' and 2 hard landings later the landing gear is broken and a skid is bent. Plastic skids would probably have been a better choice than the metal since they would tend to break. The metal skids bend, but in the process transfer a great deal of stress throughout the frame because the struts are quite stiff, breaking other things in the process. The gear would be much better if it had some give to it, which makes me inclined to build my own gear for it. Keep in mind the landings were hard, but nothing unusual for someone learning to fly. I feel pretty confident that anyone learning will break this thing in short order.
Then there's the glitz. Holy cow there's glitz. Way too much in fact, at least in my opinion. There are so many lights on this thing I'd bet you could get a few more minutes of flight time out of the thing by killing them. Then there's this goofy cheapo looking missle looking thing hung between the skids with lights on it. Just looks idiotic, although it will probably appeal to the types that string lighting all over the bottom of their Civic.
If you're looking to buy your first helicopter think long and hard before buying this one. It is not a learning helicopter. You would be money ahead and save yourself tons of frustration with a smaller machine from Syma.
